Workshops for Groups and Guilds
PLEASE NOTE - I DO NOT GIVE TALKS
I can be booked by groups to run workshops: -
BOOKS TO CHERISH
Make a personal and unique hand-stitched book with a printed and embellished cover. Using simple materials, transfer dyes, crayons, paint, wax and other media to achieve quick and exciting results.
HARD BUT EASY
Learn an easy way to construct a hardback book using simple techniques and materials. Combine pelmet vilene with board to make the cover. Then discuss incorporating: windows, flaps, found objects, material, threads, beads and embroidery to create a richly embellished book.
LIMITED EDITIONS
So I've made a book, now what do I do? This workshop aims to inspire and teach the techniques to create interesting and personal pages in your book or journal. Using stitch with collected items, such as: photographs, drawings, letters, printed items and much more. This can be a stand alone workshop or a follow-on day from any of my other book workshops.
A SURFACE LESS ORDINARY
Transform simple, ordinary pieces of material and paper using a selection of mediums, such as: gesso, inks, crayons, paint, dyes and acrylic wax. Create wonderfully rich, organic, textured surfaces for use as backgrounds to stitch and embellish. The completed pieces will be interesting, unique and personal works of art. These can be used to make book covers.
TEXTURED TREASURES
Make a book with a rich textured cover with an antique look. Combine fabric and lace with montage effects using all sorts of printed and hand written ephemera. Finished mainly by machine, but also with a touch of hand stitch.
A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
“Brown paper books, some tied up with string…” Working with brown paper and calico, using hand or machine stitch and incorporating: doors, windows, pockets, fold-outs, envelopes, etc. in order to create a very personal book with places to hide some of your “favourite things”.
ALL WORKSHOPS
At most of my workshops, students learn how to construct books from scratch using very basic materials. They produce decorative, unique covers and pages with stitched embellishment.
Various binding and fastening methods are covered along with guidelines for filling books. I generally recommend students to bring items they would like to put in their books or to use as inspiration. These may include: photographs, dried flowers, leaves, tickets, post cards or any other printed memorabilia.
